The Corriverton Links U-15 football team made sure that their travel to New Amsterdam was not in vain as they played unbeaten to come out on top of the U-15 football tournament organised for junior teas in the area.
The tournament which was organised by former national players Neil “Grizzly” Humphrey and Sherwin Ford of the Hearts of Oak Masters Football Club saw five teams participating.
Those that took part were Corriverton Links, Hearts of Oak, New Amsterdam United, East Bank Berbice and Cougars.
Results of games played saw Corriverton Links defeating East Bank 1-0 with Jevone Angel scoring. Hearts of Oak beat Cougars 4-0 with Odinga Shultz blasting a hat-trick and Jamal Sinclair one. NA United and East Bank Berbice then played to a 0-0 draw. Corriverton Links defeated Cougars 2-0 with Jevone Angel and Stiner Peneux scoring. The game between Hearts of Oak and NA United ended 0-0. East Bank then got the better of Cougars 2-0 with Sherwin Nicholson and Portland August the scorers.
Corriverton Links then got the better of NA United 1-0 with Fitzroy Jacobs scoring. Roy Amsterdam scored for Hearts of Oak Masters in their 1-0 win over East Bank Berbice. Jamal McCalmon then scored twice in NA United 2-0 victory over Cougars.
The final game between Corriverton Links and Hearts of Oak Masters ended 0-0. In all 16 goals were scored.
At the end of the competition Corriverton Links ended with 10 points followed by Hearts Of Oak on eight, NA United on five, East Bank with four and Cougars nil.
At the end of the competition trophies were presented to Corriverton Links, Hearts of Oak and NA United for placing first, second and third.
The individual awards saw trophies being presented to MVP Cyrus Nicholson, best goalkeeper Devon George both of Corriverton Links; they received trophies, while a medal was presented to Odinga Smith for scoring the most goals. (Samuel Whyte)
