The Ministry of Education’s Department of Sports, National Sports Commission (NSC) will be hosting
renowned Kinesiology’s, Dr. Kyle Pierce for a Strength and Conditioning Seminar, April 1-3 at the Hotel Tower Gym on Main Street.
The Seminar is a collaborative effort between the NSC and Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA) and Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) and will be held under the theme ‘Empowering all through Sports Education Programmes with the prerequisites to competently operate within their respective field of expertise’.
“The purpose is to offer to all Physical Preparation Coaches, Fitness Enthusiasts and Educators within the Exercise Science Field, an opportunity to be educated and/or upgrade in knowledge at a Training Seminar on contemporary principles of Strength and Conditioning,” a release from the NSC said.
The Seminar has both practical and theoretical components, hence, all participants are expected to wear sporting attire and be ready to participate fully in all activities. Registration concluded on March 18, and Participants were asked to pay $1,000 to register. Sessions will be conducted from 08:00 – 13:00 hrs and 16:00 – 21:00 hrs daily.
Dr. Pierce is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology at Louisiana State University. He is also the Director and Coach of United States of America Weightlifting Center for High Performance and Development at LSUS. Pierce is the High Performance Director at the Ghana Weightlifting Federation as well.

(1986): Ed.D. in Health Education (Auburn University, Auburn, AL); Dissertation: The effect of weight training on plasma cortisol, lactate, heart rate, anxiety, and perceived exertion
(1978): M.S. in Physical Education (Florida International University, Miami, FL).
(1974): B.S. in Recreation Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY
