Port Mourant Cricket Club made light work of the visiting Qarsa Tranzac Cricket Academy from Toronto, Canada defeating them by 25 runs in a feature, 40 overs, U-19 cricket match played recently at the Port Mourant Cricket Club’s ground, Port Mourant, Corentyne Berbice.
Port Mourant won the toss and elected to take first strike on a good batting track in bright sunshine and lost an early wicket with the score on nine. They however recovered to reach 52 before the next wicket fell and progress further to 95 before losing their third wicket. However they began to lose steady wickets and were 126 for 6 before suffering a lower order collapse to be dismissed for 158 in 29.3 overs.
Leading from in front was opening batsman Brendon Mangal who made a polished 42 (3×4) he got support from Veramootoo Senwasane with a run a ball 24 (2×4), Daniel Samaroo 17, Ezekiel Kempadoo 14, Kameshwar Chaterpau13 and Nickolas Seenarine10.
Bowling for Qarsa Tranzac Cricket Academy R. Sandhu had figures of 5-20 from five overs while A. Dorsammy picked up two, R. Patel and J. Lancaster one each.
In their turn at the crease the Qarsa Tranzac Cricket Academy were dismissed for 133 in an identical 29.3 overs. Their effort was led by Sandhu with 30 (5×4), R. Rushil with an undefeated 22(1×6, 2×4), Lancaster 19 and Joshi 11.
Daniel Samaroo crowned a fine all round performance when he returned with the ball to snare 4-13 from five overs. Also among the wickets were Kevin Latif with two and Emmanuel Seecharran, Cheddi Budhoo and Kameshwar Chaterpaul with one apiece.
The visiting Qarsa Tranzac Cricket Academy from Toronto, Canada is presently touring Guyana and has been engaging teams across the country in a series of matches. (Samuel Whyte)
