Easter came early on Saturday for the children in the Diamond/Grove area, as the Lions’ Club held a kite distribution and interactive session at the G3 Building in the Diamond New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
The event saw scores of children and parents being entertained by a costume character– Dora the Explorer. They were treated to snacks and refreshments and participated in a question and answer session.
Present at the event was the Minister within the Ministry of Education, Nicolette Henry, who throughout the event, interacted with the children and their parents.
The Minister explained to the youths the significance of Easter and later made an analogy that had participants smiling.
Minister Henry said that just like a kite, every child has the ability to go high and to succeed in life; to be all that he or she can be. She pointed out that education is the key to ensuring this and encouraged the children to go to school every day and to dream big because with education, “anything is possible.”
A representative of the Lions’ Club, Petal Ridley, said that the club will be looking to make the event an annual one. Some 300 children were catered for yesterday. Kite distribution will continue within the community during the course of the day.
She said also that cross-buns will be distributed to the senior citizens in the communities.
Ridley said that the event was made possible by the Essential Care Pharmacy, the Lucky Dollar Store, Petal Ridley and her Staff of the Princess Ramada Hotel and the Sanchez Family of Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
