Grove Hi Tech continued their winning ways when they won the Stag Crown Your Community Awareness 5-aside football competition on Friday night last at the Grove Playfield which was contested under lights.
In the final of the six team competition, Grove needled Herstelling Raiders thanks to a Denzil Crawford first half goal. In the semifinals, Kevin Rose scored the winning goal for Herstelling in their 1-0 triumph over Friendship.
Grove, on account of goals from Lloyd and Marvin Squires blanked the young and energetic Soesdyke Falcons 2-0. Meanwhile, in group play, Grove and Friendship defeated Kuru Kururu Warriors and Agricola Red Triangle by similar 3-2 margins from the penalty spot after a 0-0 score at the end of regulation time.
Herstelling defeated Kuru Kururu 1-0 thanks to an Eric Williams goal while Soesdyke had gotten past Agricola 2-0 via penalty kicks.
Similar tournaments have been held in Bartica #5 Village West Coast Berbice, Golden Grove East Coast Demerara, Den Amstel and Bartica. Camptown ground in Campbellville and Timehri Red Ground were expected to host last night.
The Stag Crown Your Community competition will see the top community among the eleven (11) competing, winning Three Million Dollars towards the enhancement of their ground. The competing areas and grounds vying are the Bartica Community Centre – Bartica, Timehri Red Ground – Timehri, New Amsterdam – Berbice, Monedderlust Ground – #5 Village West Coast Berbice, Golden Grove Ground – East Coast Demerara, Christianburg Ground – Linden, West Ruimveldt Ground – Georgetown, Camptown Ground – Campbellville, Walton Hall Ground – Essequibo, Grove Playfield – Grove East Bank and Den Amstel Community Centre Ground – West Coast Demerara.
The promotion will conclude at the end of this month.
