The curtains came down yesterday on the Kraft Toucan Industries Ltd Junior Skill level tournament which was organized by the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) in collaboration with its corporate sponsor Digicel.
Benjamin Mekdeci was crowned champion of Category A only losing one game in the entire tournament. In his final match he defeated Alec Melville in straight game 11/4, 12/10, 11/8. The other two matches contested in Category A on the final day were much closer battles. Larissa Wiltshire had to call on all her reserves to secure a hard fought three games to one win 11/3, 9/11, 12/10, 11/5, while Shomari Wiltshire had to go the full five games with Alex Cheeks before finally winning 11/5, 10/12, 11/9, 3/11, 11/7.
In Category B Makeda Harding finished the tournament without conceding a game as she defeated Rebecca Low 11/7, 11/6, 11/4.
Samuel Ince-Carvahal was finally tested in his Category C match against Gianni Carpenter. He had to call on all of his skills before winning in four very close games 7/11, 11/7, 12/10, 17/15. Michael Alphonso had a comfortable straight set victory against Demetrius DeAbreu 11/8, 11/5, 11/4, while Lucas Jonas defeated Dominic Collins in four games 11/7, 8/11, 11/6, 11/8.
In Category D Jason Gomes earned a hard fought victory against the much improved Aliyah Persaud 10/12, 11/9, 11/3, 10/12, 11/5, while Kirsten Gomes defeated Madison Fernandes 11/9, 11/4, 11/7.
