Nand Persaud and Company Limited makes massive investment in $10M event
Preparations are continuing for the Guyana Cup Fever Horserace meet set for Sunday March 27 (Easter Sunday) at the famous Arima Park Turf Club, Rising Sun, West Coast Berbice. With just over a week to go before the much anticipated event one of Guyana’s largest rice producers, the Nand Persaud Company limited, the producers of the popular Karibee, has come forward to make a major investment in the event.
On Friday Managing Director of the Company Mohin Persaud presented a cheque for a significant sum to assistant organiser Compton Sancho at the company’s head office at No.36 Village, Corentyne. Karibee Rice is no stranger to the sporting arena as they are the sponsors of the Karibee male and female cricket teams and has been sponsoring, football, cricket, basketball and other sporting and community activities.
According to Manager Mohin Persaud their involvement is part of the company’s corporate responsibilities. He sees horseracing as one of the sports that brings people of all classes together and the company is always willing to get involved in such events.
Seven races are listed on the days programme with over $10,000 in cash and trophies are up for grabs with some 40 horses entered to participate already.
The feature A and lower event is already being eagerly anticipated with most of the top runners in the country down to take part.
With new sensation to the racing arena Golden Blue Echo of the Nand Persaud Karibee Rice Stable looking for another win, the likes of C.P Got Even, Just call Me Bass, Princess She Not, American Boss, Score’s Even and Plum Plum will have other ideas and with others such as Spit Fire, Jack in My Style, Street Prince, Giants Time, Diplomatic Cat, Kazi Azaria, Unsettled, Perfect Wind Strom, Goodwill Boy, Lady Budapest and Western Charm also expected to participate. The 1400M event is looking ominous as they race for the sumptuous $1.2million winner’s money and trophy.
The other events listed on the day are the F class event. The winning take is $600,000 and trophy over 1400M. There is an 1100M event for West Indies bred three year old animals for a top prize of $400,000 and trophy. The G2 and lower 1400M match up will see the animals racing for a winning pocket of $ 400,000 and trophy.
The Guyana Bred three year old maiden horses will have a chance at competing for the first prize of $300,000 and trophy over 1100M. Animals classified H3 and lower will be racing over a distance of 1400M for a winning package of $ $250,000 and trophy.
The final event will be for animals classified J1 and lower over 1100M for a pole position taking of $200,000 and trophy.
Other horses such as Cat Messiah, Comprador, It’s My Choice, Witchy Poo, Firing Line, Red Rocket, Isn’t She Charming and Midnight Blue are all expected to feature prominently at the days meet.
The events will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
A part from the riveting horseracing the organizers will be distributing free kites to children.
The mighty Crown Vibes International Sound Company will be in the house to provide musical vibes during the day and for the after party to follow.
