Slingerz FC continued their march towards championships honours in the STAG Elite League FINALE which would see them claiming the historical double having won the GENESIS with another clinical display when they blanked West Berbice’ Monedderlust FC 4-0 on Thursday night last at Leonora Track Facility Football Field.
The opening game also saw from undisputed national champions Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United romping to a 2-0 win over Buxton United.
In both matches the outcome was decided in the first half, Slingerz netting three while Alpha scored both.
The consistent Trayon Bobb who has been in ominous form, a good sign ahead of next Tuesday’s Men’s Caribbean Championship match against the visiting Anguilla, was on target for the third match in succession when he scored in just the 5th minute to hand Slingerz the lead.
That would be doubled in the 10th minute compliments of a Kithson Bain goal before Devon Millington made in 3-0 in the 39th minute. Monedderlust were able to stem the tide of goals in the second half but could not stop the West Demerara based side from netting goal number 18 in six matches.
The inconsistent Domini Garnett was the player to score in the second minute of added on time, 90+2 to seal another compact win for Slingerz which have pushed them to 18 points, five more than the second placed Fruta Conquerors.
Alpha’s win was crafted by first half goals from Joshua Browne in the 25th minute and Colin Nelson, four minutes later. Buxton were not able to respond in like manner as they suffered their third loss in six matches while Alpha recorded their third win in six matches.
Alpha (11 points) have now moved ahead of the Guyana Defence Force into third place by one point.
SEL FINALE play will now continue on Thursday after taking a break this weekend as a number of players have been called to national duty with the Golden Jaguars for their Caribbean Cup match against Anguilla on Tuesday at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Thursday’s matches are set for the #5 ground where Fruta Conquerors face Georgetown Football Club and the home team Monedderlust oppose GDF. Kick off time is 19:00hrs
