The Guyana Squash Association (GSA) in collaboration with its corporate sponsor Digicel is holding the Kraft Toucan Industries Junior Skill level tournament, its first Junior tournament for 2016 at the Georgetown Club Inc. courts. Play continued on Thursday night at the Georgetown Club Inc. courts with matches in eight categories.
In Category A Shomari Wiltshire recorded the first major upset of the tournament when he defeated Alec Melville by three games to one. Like the previous evening against Taylor Fernandes, Alec lost the first game 9/11 and then won the second game 11/9. However, Shomari then won the third game 11/6. The fourth game was close throughout with the lead changing hands several times between the two players. At eight all Shomari hit the tin with Alec totally out of position and it seemed as if he had lost the advantage but he won the next three points to take the game and match 11/9.
Taylor Fernandes recovered from her loss the previous night against Alec Melville to record a straight sets victory over Alex Cheeks 11/8,12/10,11/7, while Benjamin Mekdeci recorded his second victory in a row when he defeated Larissa Wiltshire 11/5, 11/5, 11/5.
In Category C Samuel Ince-Carvahal proved to be too good for Ethan Jonas winning in three close games 11/7, 11/5, 11/9 while Michael Alphonso defeated Lucas Jonas 11/5, 11/7, 11/9 and Gianni Carpenter was much too strong for Dominic Collins easily winning 11/1, 11/3, 11/4.
In Category D Madison Fernandes won the first two games against Jason Gomes 11/8, 11/5 but then lost a close third game 14/16, and then also lost the fourth game 11/3. She however regained her focus and comfortably won the fifth game 11/4. Abosaide Cadogan secured her second win in the category with a hard fought three games to one victory against Aliyah Persaud.
