Telecommunications giant, Digicel, made a commendable contribution of Phagwah powder to the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Shaba (GHDS) in support of the Festival of Colours.
Digicel has been supporting the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Shaba in its efforts for a number of years. The support covers a wide range of activities hosted by the GHDS annually such as Holi Ustav, Phagwah Mela, Naya Zamana, Diwali Motorcade, Indian arrival day celebrations and their weekly television show called Kala Milan.
Phagwah will be celebrated in Guyana on March 23, next. While making the contribution, Vidya Sanichara, Communications Manager reemphasised the need for Guyanese to preserve their culture.
She said, “We are a diverse people with a diverse culture and we are pleased to offer our support to Guyana’s cultural multiplicity.”
She added, “It is well known that Phagwah is a festival that brings Guyanese from all walks of life together in celebration and there is strength in unity. We believe in this.”
Receiving the contribution from Digicel was Executive member of the GHDS Ananda Latchman.The Phagwah powder will be used in the annual Kala Utsav celebrations which will be held at the Everest Cricket Club on Carifesta Avenue on March 23 and will commence at 4:00 pm.
