Mar 18, 2016 Letters
Dear Editor,
This letter is in reference to an article which appeared in the Guyana Chronicle, March 08 2016. It centered on the Court of Appeal dealing with an issue involving the University of Guyana and a former student of the said institution, Mr. C. Cox. I wish to add that along with Cox, at least two other students , myself and Marcus (the calypsonian) have been dealt with in similar fashion by the said institution.
Over the past thirteen years (2003-2016), all possible means have been tried to resolve this matter but to no avail. Letters were sent to and/or meetings were held with every conceivable person in authority whom we assumed had the power to resolve this matter, such as Dr. B. Jagdeo, Dr. Prem Misir, Mr. Nandalall, Dr. Chanderbali and several others. My most recent attempt was a letter to Dr. Roopnarine, the current Minister of Education. Nothing was heard from his office.
This institution has, for some inexplicably reason, resisted calls from those we had met to have this matter resolved amicably. And yet again, inexplicably, we were always referred to Mr. Vincent Alexander as the only person who could’ve resolve this matter, when in the first instance, he was the one responsible for this entire issue.
May I add, that as politicians, individuals such as Vincent Alexander harp about Blacks being unjustly denied opportunities by Indians. Yet in this instance, this ‘champion of the black cause’ has singlehandedly destroyed the careers of two hard working Black men for no proper reason. Frustrated at not being able to resolve this matter through dialogue, Mr. Cox turned to the Courts. As expected, U.G. tried its level best to derail the process but by all indications, the impending Court of Appeal decision will finally see justice done.
