Plans are in the pipeline for a new Accident and Emergency Unit (A&E) and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the New Amsterdam Hospital, according to Regional Chairman, David Armogan.
The main reason for the change is to minimize the crowd and to expand emergency medical services at the hospital.
Chairman for Region Six, David Armogan, said that the current ICU only has four beds which are definitely not enough for a hospital of such nature. “For a Regional hospital, a four bed ICU is not enough to cater for the community.”
A new wing will be constructed at the hospital. Kaieteur News was told that when the A&E unit is moved to the new wing, ICU will be expanded. “The ICU will get more rooms and beds.”
Armogan said that the change is good for the New Amsterdam Hospital.
