Tucber Park Cricket Club has booked a place in the final of the Memorex Under-19, Two-innings cricket
competition in Berbice after defeating arch-nemesis and host Albion Community Centre outright in their semi-final encounter by 6 wickets recently.
Albion, choosing to take first strike saw Guyana Under-17 batsman Adrian Sukhwa and Tyrone Pooramauth giving them a start of 21 but pacer John Cameron removed both batsmen for 10 and 16 respectively. Pacer Lookpaul Sahadeo then sent back Matthew Hardyal for 4 at to leave Albion on 33-3.
Ritesh Omroa and Joshua Harrichand then put on 28 for the 4th wicket, Harrichand went back for 8. Umroa and Josiah Dhanai then took the score to 107-4. Things then deteriorated badly for Albion with the next six wickets falling for a meager 4 runs.
Left arm spinner Joel Seitaram did most of the damage, picking up 5-16 as Albion were bowled out for 113; Umroa made 47. Bowling for Tucber, Cameron took 2-14 and leg spinner Dion Sinclair 2-18.
When Tucber Park replied, they lost an early wicket with 4 runs on the board. The other opening batsman, Trevon Caesar and Guyana Under-17 batsman Deonarine put on 93 for the 2nd wicket before Deonarine fell for 54 (2×4).
Caesar held firm as he added another 39 for the 3rd wicket with Seitaram before falling for a crucial 50 (2×4). Seitaram was soon caught for 41 at 157-3. Berbice Under-15 batsmen Garfield Benjamin went for 4 with the score at 169 and the lead at 56.
Former Berbice Under-15 batsmen Kyle Michael (31) and Sahadeo (14) did well to add another valuable 32 for the 6th, Tucber Park eventually falling for 214.
Karran Arjpaul (4-46) and Guyana Under-15 spinner Kelvin Umroa (5-13) were the main wreckers, Umora took 2-35.
Facing a deficit of 101 runs with five hours of play remaining, Albion came out in their second innings intent on pulling off a come-from-behind victory as they have done in the past. With Sukhwa leading the way with all guns ablaze, Albion went on to reach 171 for 5 in just 33-overs, leaving Tucber Park the tantalizing target of 70 to win. Sukhwa smashed 92 (11×4 1×5 1×6) before falling via the run out route.
Tucber Park in their victory chase lost an early wicket without a run on the board to Arjpaul but Caesar and Deonarine put on a valuable 34 before Deonarine fell to Arjpaul for 13. Caesar and Seitaram took Tucber within sight of victory by putting 29 for the 3rd wicket before Arjpaul struck again, removing Seitaram for 28 at 63-3.
They eventually reached 70-3 with Caesar unbeaten on 30 and Dion Sinclair 6*. Arjpaul ended with 3-31 for match figures of 7-77.
