– sixth straight finals for RHTYSC, MS
Another cricket team of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS have advanced to a cricket final in the ancient county of Berbice. The Rose Hall Town Pepsi Under-19 defeated Young Warriors of Canje at the Cumberland Ground on first innings to advance to the final of the Memorex Under-19 two days tournament. This would be the sixth straight finals for RHTYSC teams since November 2015. The Club has won the Berbice River Bridge 50 overs first division, Tenelec 50 overs first division, Busta 40 overs Champion of Champions and Tenelec Berbice Under-15 Tournament and has also reached the final of the NBS Second Division Tournament which would be played shortly.
Batting first after winning the toss, RHT Pepsi were given a slow but solid start of 23 by openers Junior Sinclair and Keith Simpson before Simpson was caught at the wicket off leg spinner David Eastman for 05. National junior players Sinclair and Kevlon Anderson then added 35 for 2nd wicket before Anderson seemed unlucky to be given caught at first slip off Eastman for a solid 20. Former National Under-17 batsman and RHT Pepsi Captain, Brandon Prashad joined forces to ass 141 for the 3rd wicket in 3 hours. Prashad the more attacking of the two struck ten boundaries in a well-played 73 before he threw his wicket away with a wide slog to long on off left arm spinner Trevon Stanislaus at 199 for 3. Williams went on to score a brilliant 103 before he was fifth out, LBW to off spinner Aaron Beharry. Stanislaus with support from Beharry bowled well to restrict RHT Pepsi to 245 all out after they were once comfortable at 199 for 3. Stanislaus claimed five wickets for 51 runs from 22.3 overs, while David Eastman 2 for 94 and Beharry 2 for 17 bowled well for the home team.
Needing to score 246 in their first innings to advance to the finals, Young Warriors ended the first day on 44 without loss as openers Alex Algu (20 not out) and Jerome France (16 not out) looked solid. National Under-17 pacer Slyus Tyndall struck the first blow for RHT Pspsi when he removed France early into the second day’s play for 20, beautifully caught by Anderson at first slip. Algu and Stanislaus then added 25 for the 2nd wicket before Algu was dismissed for 39 by left arm spinner Keith Simpson. The home team batted comfortably to reach 178 for 3 before the visitors took the 2nd new ball.
Tyndall struck with the first ball when he had Stanislaus brilliantly caught in the gully for 48. Young Warriors then lost wickets regularly and were eventually dismissed for 219 despite a last wicket stand of 18 by J. Frank and D. Eastman. Bowling for RHT Pepsi under-19 team, Sinclair completed a good match with 3 for 40 from 30 overs while Tyndall 20 – 1 – 45 – 2 and Keith Simpson 29 – 12 – 41 – 2 supported well. Off spinner Joshua Gobin took the last wicket to finish the innings and the match was called off with less than an hour remaining. RHT Pepsi would meet the winner of the Tucker Park and Albion Semi-finals clash in the finals.
