A number of problems on Monday resulted in several hours of power outages on the East Coast and East Bank of Demerara.
According to the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL), at approximately 10:40hrs Monday, damaged line hardware at Clonbrook, ECD, resulted in a line trip which caused an interruption in the supply of electricity from Unity, Mahaica to Lowlands until 16:45hrs.
“Unfortunately, at 23:30 hrs last evening (Monday), a fallen tree caused severe damage to the network and affected the same area. Owing to the weather constraints and time of occurrence, remedial work commenced at sunrise which resulted in electricity being restored at 09:15hrs today (yesterday).”
On the East Bank, customers from Industrial Site to Houston were also without electricity from 10:00 hrs Monday due to a yet to be determined fault.
“GPL technicians are presently carrying out detailed checks on the affected feeder to ascertain and subsequently correct the fault. A defective transformer, which has since been isolated from the network, resulted in sections of Houston to Agricola being without power from 10:00hrs yesterday (Monday) to 03:00hrs this morning (yesterday) while consumers from Diamond Public Road to Eccles were affected from 10:00 hrs to 18:30hrs yesterday (Monday).”
GPL said it is appealing for patience as technicians work to fix the problems.
