Mavericks, Lions, Bulls, Bears record wins
West Demerara Mavericks, Lower East Bank Lions, Lower East Coast Bulls and Georgetown Bears recorded wins in the third round of the DCB/RSI Brokers Over-40 20/20 Competition across Demerara.
Over at Wales ground, Tigers posted 152/6 in their allotted overs with Mustaq Shaw and Deonarine Chatura contributing 38 and 36 respectively, while Sham Persaud was the pick of the bowlers with 2/15. In their reply, Mavericks finished on 156/8 in 19.4 overs. Sham Persaud top-scored with 28 and Ganesh Persaud hit 20. Deonarine Chatura and Seemangal Yadram accounted for three wickets each.
At Everest ground, Lions held off West Coast Demerara Seals for their third consecutive victory. Lions opted to take first strike and finished on 162/9. Nigel Estrado made 33 and Saheed Mohamed and Sahadeo Hardow supported with 31 and 29 respectively. Bowling for Seals Nigel Vieira and Rampersaud Shivpersaud took two wickets each. Seals struggled in their chase and only managed 96/6 in their 20 overs. Rampersaud Shivpersaud top-scored with 26, while Johnny Azeez took 2/10 with his off-spin.
Lower East Coast Bulls enjoyed their first victory of the tournament when they defeated Georgetown Buffaloes at Lusignan ground. Buffaloes batted first and totaled 160/6; Sonaram Sookram and Reginald Rodrigues led the way with 32 and 31 respectively. Mahendra Nauth was the pick of Bulls bowlers with 2/21. Bulls chased the target comfortably, finishing on 163/2 in 16 overs. Arthur Duke slammed and unbeaten 85 after Nirmaldeo Sarwan started the innings with a flying 61.
At GCC ground, Georgetown Bears held their nerves and defeated Upper East Bank Colts by three wickets. It was their third consecutive victory. Colts took first strike and made 145/7. Derrick Koulen was the destroyer with the ball with 4/12 and Surendra Hiralall took 2/27. Bears kept loosing wickets regularly in their chase but Sylus Gibson played a good hand to ensure his team didn’t buckle. He made 55; Ron Ramnauth supported with 20. Bowling for East Bank, P. Khan and M. Pooran took two wickets each.
The Competition continues with the fourth round this week. Tomorrow, Thursday, March 17, Mavericks will go up against Bears at Wales ground and Tigers will clash with Colts at Enterprise ground. On Friday, March 18, Buffaloes will take on Lions at Everest ground and Bulls will battle Seals at Zeeburg ground.
