A 79-year-old ex-police officer who was once attached to the Special Branch fatally shot himself in the head with his licenced firearm, a 12-gauge shotgun.
Dead is James Randolph Anderson of Lot 3 Railway Line, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice. Anderson lived at that address with a relative, Connell Stewart. The incident allegedly occurred between 09:00 hrs and 09:30 hrs at his residence.
According to information, the elderly man was being taken care of by Stewart since all his relatives live overseas.
According to the police, Stewart left the house earlier and went to the nearby Rosignol market. However before leaving, he was informed by Anderson that he (Anderson) had to go and fix his shotgun.
A short while after Stewart left, neighbours heard a loud explosion. Upon returning home, Stewart found Anderson lying on a bed with the left side of his face blown away. The weapon was on the ground.
One spent shell and one live round were recovered from the scene.
The investigation is continuing.
