Pele are back into the top four on goal difference ahead of the GDF following their 2-0 triumph over Georgetown Football Club (GFC) as round-five play in the STAG Elite League FINALE continued on Saturday night last at the #5 ground, West Coast Berbice.
The feature match of the night saw the home team, Monedderlust and Buxton United battling to a 1-1 stalemate. Buxton clawed their way back into the match in the second half after they found themselves training the home team from the 25th minute when Sean Jackman put them ahead.
As he has done before, Denvor Dennis stepped up to the plate for Buxton to score the equalizer in the 57th minute. The point maintains the East Demerara’s side sixth place position in the points standings while Monedderlust came off the bottom of the table with their second point of the FINALE.
Pele’s win saw them moving ahead of the Guyana Defence Force into fourth place with a better goal difference. It was GFC’s fourth loss in five matches in this second half of the league while it was Pele’s second win in five matches.
GFC did keep the score sheets clean by the end of the first 45 minutes to their credit but it was the depth of Pele that saw them finally breaking down the stubborn resistance of GFC. Royan Morrison it was who finally broke the deadlock in the 55th minute.
GFC still kept on fighting and it was until the 85th minute that Pele were able to double their lead to effectively seal full points and their second win. It was Omallo Williams who performed the honours of scoring.
The first half of matches in Round six is set for Wednesday at the Tucville ground. Pele and Fruta Conquerors will contest the main match with the opener at 18:00hrs between GDF and GFC.
