Two bandits armed with a shotgun and cutlass inflicted a beating on a Corentyne shop owner and family before escaping with their valuables last Friday.
The family lives at Lot 347 Ankerville, Corentyne in a two- flat house and operates a shop at the front of the building.
Reliving the ordeal, Kavita Daiaram stated that she was at home with her father, Sookram Diaram, her mother, Sabitri Diaram, and her 10-year-old son.
It was about 18:20 hrs and they were about to close the shop when two men attacked them.
One of them struck her on the head with a cutlass and she collapsed.
The men then used duct tape to bind her father. Her mother began to scream and ran to her daughter’s side, but was immediately beaten and dragged to the ground.
The bandits began demanding cash and jewellery.
While one man kept guard, the other went into the shop and removed the day’s sales along with a quantity of phone cards, beverages and other valuables.
They then escaped through a hole they had cut through the back fence.
Neighbours who heard the family’s screams only ventured out after the bandits had left.
The police were contacted and according to the family, took more than an hour to respond.
The injured were treated at the Port Mourant Hospital.
The family was robbed on the March 10, 2015 and around January and February 2015. No one has been arrested.
