Students and pupils from nursery, secondary and Primary Schools in Region Two (Pomeroon/ Supenaam) were on Wednesday, given an opportunity to display their various science products to a wider audience that included their fellow students, pupils, teachers and general education officers.
The occasion was the Region Two Department of Education biennial science fair and exhibition. The theme this time around was “Enhancing traditional technologies to sustain modern societies through S.T.E.M”
During her speech to students and teachers before officially pronouncing the two-day activity open, Bramadai Seepersaud, Regional Executive Officer, emphasized that the science fair was “very” important to all students, especially those in Region Two who are again given an opportunity to explore and invent modern science products.
Seepersaud added that students and pupils were also afforded an opportunity to share ideas and exchange thoughts with their fellow peers.
The REDO reminded that the Region has done well since it was established that both teachers and students are scientifically motivated. This was known during repeated participations in science competitions.
She spoke of the Region’s involvement in one of the largest science fairs to be held. That event saw Schools in the Region copping ten winning prizes over the years.
Everyone was deemed a “winner” by Seepersaud who went on to say that the future lies in the hands of young people who are willing to dream and to create new technological projects.”Science can change our future.”
Last year a team of students from the Abram Zuil Secondary school on the Essequibo Coast won both the national and regional competitions for a project they created
That project entered into the Sagicor Visionary Core in Florida and won the top award.
Deputy Regional Executive Officer, Sunil Singh, who also attended the event, reminded his audience that while we are pursuing the advancement of technology, we also need to focus on our moral and spiritual advancement. Singh explained that technology was both good and bad but it all depends on how we use it.
Among the attendees included, REDO, Bramdai Seepersaud, Chief Judge, Petal Jettoo, senior education officer, Amir Ally, Nursery department head, Ms. Shaundel Hercules, Ms. Nicola Matthews.
