A 53-year-old labourer was yesterday fined $70,000 after he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
It is alleged that on March 7, last, Sadeek Mohamed stole one Perry Ellis reading glasses, one all-purpose cell phone charger and some tools from Mohamed Khan at Brickdam, Georgetown. Mohamed lives in Crabwood Creek, Berbice and pleaded guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Dinero Jones said that on the day in question, Mohamed Khan drove his car and parked it in the vicinity of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and left to carry out some errands at 8:00am. At 10:00am when he returned to his car, he noticed the vehicle was opened and further discovered the items were missing. Khan made enquiries and an eyewitness identified the defendant and he was arrested. The defendant admitted to the offence upon arrest.
When Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan asked Mohamed if he had anything to say, he replied by saying, “Sorry”.
