Dear Editor,
These days with the passage of time, we tend to forget and ignore the gallant men and women, who are part of the making of our Guyana. I learnt of the passing of one of our sons, Mr. Weihgan Young in Florida, USA and I thought it prudent in this year of our Golden Jubilee to recall his work as City Engineer at Independence. He came from a line of Illustrious Guyanese, many of them from Buxton. Mr. Young was intimately involved in the engineering works for our Independence Arch.
As we go pass Independence Arch, let us remember Weihgan, who lived long enough to learn of its restoration last year. This Arch was recently restored at the instance of President Granger and his new Government, after being ignored and turned to ruin for over two decades. May his soul Rest in Peace.
