David Eastman instrumental with match haul of 10 wickets
Legspinner David Eastman spun webs around the Achievers batsmen with a ten wicket match haul to lead Young Warriors Cricket Club into the semi finals of the BCB/ Memorex Under-19 Two-innings Cricket Competition
for teams in Berbice. He got support from Aaron Beharry and Trevon Stanislaus in the bowling department and Sasenarine Sukhu, Stanislaus, Jarron France and Alex Algoo in the batting as they won by 38 runs at the Bush Lot Ground on the West Coast of Berbice.
Batting first after winning the toss under clear blue skies; consistent batting from Berbice youth players Sukhu (64), Stanislaus (47), Jarron France (42) and Alex Algoo 31 saw Young Warriors posting a competitive 261 all out. Bowling for Achievers, Akeem Blackman and Joseph Nicholson took 3 wickets apiece. Achievers in reply could only muster 161 all out with the topscore of 58 coming from the bat of Titus Webster. He got support from Randy Wade (35) and Adrian Ramnarine 23. Eastman took 8 for 34 and Beharry 2 for 33.
In their second turn at the crease, YWCC batted poorly and were bowled out for 104 with only Sukhu with 27 offering any resistance. Nicholson took 6 wickets and Blackman 4 for Achievers. Set a target of 206 for victory, Achievers threatened with a solid opening partnership of 89 between Wade (22) and the classy Ramrach (75). However, when they fell, so was the hope of Achievers who were eventually bundled out for 168. Stanislaus led the way with 5 for 30 and Beharry 3 for 25.
YWCC will now play Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club in their semi final game at Cumberland on March 12 and 13 from 10:00am each day.
