Considered amongst the best race car drivers to come out of Guyana, before he took a brief haitus from racing, the speed machine by the name of Mark Vieira, though not willing to totally commit his participation at the
upcoming March 20 ‘National Race of Champions’ Meet, told this newspaper via telephone yesterday that the team is working feverishly to be at the starting grid.
The enigmatic racer, a former national champion speaking with Kaieteur Sport said that work on his Mazda RX8 monster, who has not raced in local competition for approximately two years, but competed in the Suzuki Series in Barbados will be going up against the likes of the Jeffrey clan Kevin and reigning local and Caribbean champion Kristian, Irfaan Kalamadeen, the maestro Andrew King and the dangerous Danny Persaud in Group 4.
Should the former master of the South Dakota Circuit take to the track motor racing fans and his own band of supporters should expect a ruthless display as he seeks to reclaim the dominance he once held over his rivals.
Added incentive must be to be selected on the Guyana team to compete at the season opening Caribbean Motor Racing Championship in Jamaica.
Guyana is the defending overall champion and also holds the distinction of having the Group 4 champion so Vieira would most likely want to have his machine in perfect condition to do well for his native land.
However, before that, he will have to qualify for his spot and this is where the thrill and excitement will be as he attempts to upstage his counterparts after a hiatus from the sport locally.
Meanwhile, among the sponsors on board to date are GTT and Fly Jamaica and admission to the races is $1,000 for adults and $500 for children under the age of 12 years.
Starting time is 09:30 hrs.
