The Fyrish Black Sharks continued their dominance as they stretched their unbeaten
run when the Anamayah Memorial Basketball first division tournament for teams in Berbice continued on Sunday with one game at the Rose Hall Basketball Court. Their latest opponents were the Rose Hall Jammers who lost 46-32.
The Fyrish Black Sharks played an attacking brand of basketball despite being in their opponent’s territory. Despite the best efforts of the Jammers the Black Sharks were able to lead 11-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Jammers bounced back in the second segment as they settled down and took control and with home court advantage in their favour were able to hold the Black Sharks at bay and take the lead to end the first half at 23-20.
The half time rest really re-energized the Roving Black Sharks as they pounced upon their opponents, eating away at the lead to score 10 points to their opponents 3 for a 30-26 advantage.
By the start of the four quarter it was evident the Jammers found difficulty halting the rush pacy Black Shark, who outscored them 16-6 to seal the 46-32 win.
For the Black Sharks Tafawa Daly led the way with 13 points and was supported by Linden Joseph 8 and Dessi Douglas 6. For the Rose Hall Town Jammers Delbert Hicks and Kevin Deolall scored 12 points each, with Ezekel Simon 7.
The competition continues on Sunday at the Ithaca Basketball court with New Amsterdam Warriors opposing Hopetown Steelers from 16:00 hrs.
The tournament is being organised by sports enthusiast Vibert Garrett. (Samuel Whyte)
