As the date for the anticipated event gets closer, more sponsors are on board with the Young Warriors Cricket Club annual fundraiser, Mash Cup 2016. The latest sponsor is former West Berbice opening batsman Altabh Khan, owner of Silver Lining Establishment Tyre Shop and Auto Rentals of Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice. The tournament which was slated for Mash Day, Tuesday February 23, but was postponed, is now set for March 20, at the Cumberland Ground.
At the presentation held recently, Khan said that being a former first division player, he closely follows the game and is always impressed with the work of the YWCC. He added that the club continues to produce outstanding players with the latest being young batting sensation Shimron Hetmyer who successfully led the West Indies under-19 team to World Cup glory in Bangladesh.
Collecting the sponsorship cheque on behalf of the club, Gordon Edwards, brother of opener Waheid Edwards thanked the businessman for his kindness and call on the general public in the West Berbice area and beyond to support the business so that the owner can give back more towards the development of the sport.

This event will form part of Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebration with proceeds going towards further improvements to the club’s facilities and day to day running. In addition, funds will be allocated to three schools in the No19 to Gangaram area.
The draw for the first round was done and is as follows:
Canefield vs Gangaram, YWCC vs Seawell, Buski vs Canje Pathfinders, No 19 ‘A’ vs No 19 ‘B’, Betsy Ground vs Goed Bananen Land, Rose Hall Estate vs No 7.
Incentives with the value of over $100,000 will be up for grabs with lots of gate prizes, musical entertainment and ball by ball update by Spongy.
