With just under twelve days remaining before Guyana’s best racers face each other in the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club ‘National Race of Champions’ Meet, at the South Dakota Circuit, the environment is abuzz
with talk of who will dominate the Superbike segment.
Former local and Caribbean champion Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira has already thrown down the gauntlet on current Caribbean and national champions Elliott Vieira and Matthew Vieira respectively and it is now up to them to show him that their emergence as the new bosses of the division was no fluke, but rather a changing of the guard.
Stephen, who had dominated the local and regional circuits after several victories over the Canadian maestro Kevin Graham and his subsequent retirement, has had to watch his two cousins come out of his shadows and replace him as the most exciting young riders in the category.
Elliott considered the smoothest of the three riders was a revelation last year and his performance was of such that he was crowned the new Superbike champion in the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC), while Matthew, was not far behind in achievement, capturing the national title to leave their more illustrious cousin Stephen without a title.
However, the experienced rider has vowed to retake his titles and the upcoming Meet is being used as the first step to doing so according to him.
Additionally, with spots on the Guyana team to compete in the first CMRC event in Jamaica up for grabs, fans could very well witness an enthralling battle among the three outstanding riders.
While the battle for supremacy in the category could be among the three riders, racers such as Joel Neblett and Carlos Rodrigues could very well be the spoilers.
The Superbikers are promising something special and lovers of the sport should make it a date to be down at the Circuit to witness the spectacle first hand.
