Sanitary workers who laboured without health protection

Dear Editor,
I applaud the notable achievement of the Georgetown Municipality and by extension the APNU+AFC Government in the massive environmental and aesthetic transformation of not only the city of Georgetown but the country as a whole.
With this same notion, I wish to acknowledge those sanitary workers who laboured throughout the clean-up campaign. They endured some of the most horrendous, environmentally unfriendly, unsanitary and unhygienic conditions that many of us would never be subjected to even if we were handsomely compensated. Some of these workers are even inadequately equipped with the necessary personal protective equipment that should minimize exposure to all sorts of viruses, infections and diseases.
They are still working long hours in uncomfortable weather conditions with little or nothing to consume, yet complaints are made  when persons are unable to comfortably park their vehicles on their parapets or driveways because of the remnants of a decade old of clogged drains. Probably, it is forgotten about the many floods that were experienced which were indeed as a result of those poorly maintained drains that are now clean.
We ought to be a bit more appreciative and compassionate about the impacting clean-up initiatives within our country and the workers who continue to make this possible. I therefore beseech you my fellow countrymen, to render recognition and gratitude to these sanitary workers in the countrywide clean-up campaign. These hardworking and committed men and women, continue to demonstrate in no uncertain terms the spirit of unswerving loyalty and service to this great country of ours, the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
