Memorex Under-19 Two-innings Cricket Competition in Berbice
Albion Community Centre Cricket Club has joined Tucber Park by advancing to the semi-finals of the Memorex Under-19 Two-innings Cricket Competition after they gained a huge first innings lead over Bush Lot United New Generation who failed to show up for the second day’s play of their quarter-final encounter.
In the match which was played at Albion, the host won the toss and chose to bat first. They soon found themselves in a spot of bother to be 50 for 3 with pacers Wendell Fordyce and Imran Khan picking up two and one wicket respectively. However, Berbice Under-17 batsman Joshua Harrichand was joined at the crease by Josiah Dhanai and together they eased their team out of further trouble by putting on 94 for the 4th wicket before Dhanai fell for a mature 49.
The impressive Harrichand continued, putting on 24 for the 5th wicket with Tyrone Pooranauth (13), 45 for the 6th wicket with R. Kasinauth (10) and 76 for the 7th wicket with former Guyana Under-15 cricketer Steve Kamaludin before he (Harrichand) fell for 146 (8 fours). With Kamaludin going on to make 45 and Guyana Under-15 allrounder Kelvin Umroa 23 N.O., Albion went on to declare at 351 for 8. Earlier, Guyana Under-17 batsman Adrian Sukhwa and Berbice Under-17 batsman Matthew Hardyal made 23 each.
Bowling for Bush Lot, pacer Akeem Miller took 3 for 94 and Fordyce 2 for 45.
When Bush Lot began their 1st innings response, Albion pacers Dhanai and Kamaludin picked up two and one wicket respectively to have them 23 for 3. Miller and Ally stopped the slide but after they added 22 for the 4th wicket, they collapsed again when Berbice Under-17 offspinner Asif Ali removed both of them for 14 each to leave them at 47 for 5. They did not get much further than that and were bowled out for a disappointing 57 by the close of play. Ally ended with 4 for 6 and Dhanai 2 for 12.
Whether Albion would have enforced the follow on or opted for batting practice in their second innings would remain unknown due to the fact that the Bush Lot team failed to turn up for the second day’s play.
