Li’l pickney does always think dem smart. When is Christmas Eve dem don’t want sleep. De same children who don’t like do housework suddenly want to help dem mother wid decorations, even if it tek whole night. Dem know that dem parents want dem in bed before Santa come.
Last night wasn’t Christmas Eve but de people at de Waterfalls paper didn’t want to go home, either. Old people seh is a bad thing when dog like suck egg. De Waterfalls boss man tun 25 today. He is a young man suh every time he birthday come round de night before he don’t sleep because he frighten that if he shut he eye he mightn’t open dem fuh de birthday.
Many times demboys keep wake wid him. Dem would sit down wid him while he send and buy food and cutters. De drinks always in place. That is one night dem boys can’t get charge fuh drunk driving because nobody don’t go home. Dem does sit down wid de boss man who does lie down pun a table after midnight. When de sun come up he does go home.
Today is he burday. He wasn’t in Guyana because he had other business. He had to meet Brassington in Florida. Suh last night he go to a place name Bahama Breeze to meet Brassington who smell a rat and didn’t tun up. He believe that de boss woulda slap him.
When midnight come and there was no Brassington de boss man head to de airport. He telephone dem boys that he coming home fuh he burday. Thank heavens de plane wasn’t full suh he get a seat.
And when he was coming out de plane Jagdeo was heading to another plane. He was going to meet Brassington. Is then de airport police nearly had problems. De Waterfalls boss man shake he hand to Jagdeo but de old scamp report how de boss man show him cuff. That is when de boss man go to cuff him fuh truth. It woulda be a burday gift from de Waterfalls boss man to Jagdeo.
