Husband hacks mother of two to death

A 39-year-old mother of two is now dead after being viciously hacked to death by her common-law husband of five years.
The dead woman, identified as Indrawattie Somwar called ‘Sharda’ of Number 77 Housing Scheme, Princetown, Corriverton, Berbice, was slain at her home yesterday at around 4:40 pm (16:40 hrs).
According to information reaching Kaieteur News, Somwar and her husband 29-year-old Ravindra Bandu, called ‘Birdie,’ were having an argument when things got heated.
The woman attempted to leave the home when she was cornered and dealt several chops about her body by the enraged man. She fell to the ground and was dealt several more chops mainly to her head, neck and face in her front yard.
A neighbour who witnessed the attack said the man has been known to be cruel and was drunk at the time of the incident.
“He come home drunk and start cuss up. He chop up the woman like fish and laughing all the time ‘bout how she teeth fall out. He does always beat she.’’
A relative told this publication that the woman has been suffering years of abuse from her husband “’Birdie would always come home drunk and start quarrelling with her and then beat she. He always jealous if Sharda talk to anybody”.
She stated the man came home around 16:30 hours and was intoxicated and minutes later he started to curse and quarrel with the woman.
The police were called in by the neighbours who heard the woman screaming. The police arrived promptly and were able to apprehend the suspect who was kept in the area by public spirited citizens.
The seemingly intoxicated suspect was overheard boasting to the police that “me chop she till all she teeth come out… she deserve more than that”.
The couple had been living together for over five years, with the woman’s two daughters from another relationship, aged 13 and 17, at their home in the Number 77 Housing scheme. At the time of the incident, both children were at home and the younger girl escaped and alerted relatives who live a few houses away.
A female relative of the murdered woman said that on numerous occasions ‘Birdie’ would threaten to kill his wife. She said by the time they arrived at the scene she appeared to be already dead.
She was pronounced dead at the Skeldon Hospital.
The suspect is assisting police with their investigations.
