The Guyana Rugby Football Union’s (GRFU) held their Annual General Meeting on Sunday February 28
at the National Resource Centre, Woolford Avenue and a new executive committee was elected.
Peter Green will continue at the helm of the organisation with the assistance of several current and former players forming the team to run their affairs. Those elected are:
Mr. Peter Green – President
Mr. Joshua Griffith – Snr. Vice President
Mr. Elwin Chase – Jnr. Vice President
Ms. Petal Adams – Honorary Secretary
Mr. Seyone Heywood – Honorary Treasurer
Mr. Ryan Gonsalves – Asst/Sec. Treasurer
Mr. Daniel Anderson – Public Relations Officer
Ms. Lavern Fraser – Committee Member
Ms. Sabola Gray – Committee Member
Mr. Delroy Gordon – Committee Member
Mr. Colin Sultan – Committee Member
On the backdrop of the adoption to the Amendments to the Constitution, the new executive body will remain seated for two years (2016-2018).
In a release the Union disclosed its planned upcoming events:
1. Finals of the GTT first division 15’s Championship
UG Wolves and Yamaha Caribs will face off in the final of the above championships this Saturday at the National Park. UG Wolves sits on the pedestal with 21 points after 5 matches and Yamaha Caribs trailing second with 16 points from the lot. The top two teams are distantly followed by Pepsi Hornets 11 points from 5 games and Police in the cellar from equal matches.
2. Senior Men’s 15 RAN Championships
Following the conclusion of the GTT championship, the GRFU will commence trials for the upcoming international matches against Barbados (April 23rd) and Jamaica (May 21st) at home before travelling to Trinidad for the final game in the Southern Zone in June. Training sessions are scheduled to be conducted Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays under the watchful eyes of the union appointed coaches Lawrence Adonis, Clinton Clarke, Theodore Henry and Kenneth Grant Stuart.
3. Junior Men 15 RAN Championships
The U/19 Male team will be participating in this year’s Championship in Miami, in July. The Union also wishes to inform all eligible persons that are under 19 years with the dream to represent their country, to register themselves as well as attend training sessions on the aforementioned days. Coaches Lawrence Adonis and Troy Yhip will be overseeing preparations.
4. Women’s Rugby
The Union is asking all female players to be registered in anticipation of upcoming tournaments, RAN 10’s and RAN 7’S within the Caribbean. Players are asked to report to Coach Chase and Adonis immediately, the release informed.
