Football in Guyana faces yet another challenge with the resignation of Technical Director Claude Bolton.
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) in a brief letter to its affiliates yesterday stated that Bolton tendered his resignation with effect from March 1st, 2016 after taking up the job last year (January 10, 2015) under the then FIFA appointed, Normalisation Committee which was headed by Businessman, Clinton Urling.
The GFF informed its affiliates that Mr. Bolton’s parting ways with the body was as a result of his inability to fulfill the residency requirement of his job in Guyana being a resident of Canada.
Bolton, a Chartered Professional Coach (ChPC) with more than 15 years of professional coaching and technical experience also served the GFF in a similar capacity in 2000 / 2001. He holds a United States Soccer Federation National “A” License, a Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) “B” License and an English Football Association International Coaching License.
He is also a former Regional Youth Head Coach of Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps.
Bolton was the Head Coach of Guyana’s Futsal team that competed in the CFU Championship and he also served as part of the Technical Staff to Mark Rodrigues with the Lady Jags in Texas at the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying championships last month.
The GFF has not given any information regarding a replacement for Bolton. Under his tenure, the Stag Elite League was born with the GENESIS competed successfully, while the FINALE is now underway.
Bolton also guided the process of the CONCACAF Club Licensing Programme which is still ongoing while paying numerous visits to affiliates. The Next Generation Project was also launched by Bolton as well as the GFF’s inaugural “D” License Course.
Commenting on the course, Bolton had stated in an interview with Kaieteur Sport: “This historic course is evidence that the GFF has actualized its commitment to placing Coaching Development at the forefront of our Football Development.”
Women’s Development was also on Bolton radar, while plans were already in train to run off the SCOTIABANK sponsored Youth Academies in various associations. The GFF said that it would continue to reach out to Bolton to seek guidance on programmes that the former TD had started under the Generation Next Project.
