The carnage on the countries roads continued over the weekend with three road fatalities being recorded.
Two of the fatalities occurred on the Unity, Mahaica Public road and both cases are being investigated as hit and run.
In the first case, Deodat Ram of Helena, Number 2, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, died on Saturday night when he was struck down by a motorcyclist who fled the scene and is still to be identified.
According to the police, pedestrian Deodat Ram, 46, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation a few hours after he was found lying on the Unity, Mahaica Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
The accident occurred around 23:40 hours.
Police suspect that Ram was struck down by the motorcyclist while he was walking along the unlit roadway.
The motorcycle was found abandoned at the scene without the registration number.
And last night, the mangled body of an unidentified man was discovered in almost less than half mile from where ram’s was found.
Kaieteur News understands that the police received about an accident and a man lying on the roadway.
When they went to the scene, they found the man lying motionless with what appeared to be several broken limbs.
According to a source, the man appeared to have been run over several times by vehicles.
Up to late last night, the police were still combing the dark roadway for any clues.
Meanwhile, investigations are being conducted into another fatal accident that occurred at about 10:00 hours yesterday on the No. 70 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, and which resulted in the death of motorcyclist Jewram Kbublallchand, 45, of No. 75 Village, Corentyne.
According to the police, investigations so far have revealed that the driver of a motor lorry attempted to overtake the motorcyclist who was hit by the tray of the lorry.
Jewram Khublallchand was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he succumbed while receiving medical treatment.
The driver of the motor lorry is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
