…Tigers, Bears and Buffaloes record big victories also
Those witnessing the DCB/RSI Over-40 20/20 second round match at the DCC ground Friday
were anticipating a huge score from West Demerara Mavericks who were accelerating in the first half of the innings against Lower East Bank Lions; but Lions captain, Johnny Azeez, halted the flow in the second half, capturing 5/17 to send Mavericks crashing.
Eon Williams hammered seven fours and three maximums in 81 but when he fell, Mavericks never recovered. They slid from 108/3 to 144 all out in 19.2 overs, losing their last six wickets for two runs of which the last four went for no run.
When Lions took to the crease, Sahadeo Hardiow and Shivnarine Chanderpaul showed intentions of finishing the match early as they were scoring at 10 runs per over in the first eight overs. Hardiow fell for 36 but together with the new batsman, Saheed Mohamed, Chanderpaul continued pressing for an early finish. Chanderpaul was eventually caught on the long-off boundary for an even 50 in the 14th over.
