Dear Editor,
I’m writing this letter simply to let the pubic know what doctors and nurses under the Regional Health services (RHS) of the Ministry of Public health have to go through. I have been at the Ministry of Public Health one year shy of ten years and it is sad to say no matter who is the ruling party, Regional Health Services is still a hot mess. As of right now I think it is at its worst; they are managers that I have noticed that simply can’t manage and the staff below them are the ones paying for their bad management. One of the managers for RHS seems to be running around not knowing what the hell to do and what’s even more ridiculous is that she seems to be taking notes from a certain manager of hinterland. I have been moved to about 3 different health centers and never told why I was moved, never given a letter about being moved, just called and asked to go there.
Now what is funny is that the protocol they have set is that you are not supposed to move without an appointment letter which you get one month in advance, yet a lot of staff under RHS can say they never even seen what an appointment letter looks like. Failure to comply by the word and mouth results in you, the staff being labeled “troublesome”, and that is when the penalization start. They will take you and send you in the interior without even asking what is your current personal situation; they just don’t care, they want you gone. RHS does not care about their staff’s personal situations.
The reason I see the need to put this to the public light is because RHS seems to the outside like they are doing their jobs when it is the exact opposite. I have never seen so many doctors and nurses running up those steps to contest where they are being sent or to for their appointment letter. It is my view that managers put up an “all is well” front to the Minister Dr. Norton, so he doesn’t check in with them. The end result of all the bad management at RHS is that staff are just waiting out their contract and leaving. I really hope the Minister takes note of this because soon there will be a great shortage of nurses and doctors. No one is willing to stay; not even those who have already started a family. RHS managers are playing with people’s lives and don’t care.
