At an estimated cost of $7 million, a Municipal Training Academy is likely to be completed in another few months. This is according to Public Relations Officer (Ag), Ms. Debra Lewis.
She disclosed that the Mayor and Councillors of the City Of Georgetown (M&CC) has commenced repairs to the Municipal Training facility located at Water Street, North Cummingsburg, Georgetown.
The building was primarily used for training new and special recruits of the City Constabulary Department. It was re-constructed to accommodate training of Constabulary recruits in 1999. But the ongoing works, according to Lewis, is an extensive upgrade.
The upgrade of the facility is in keeping with the vision of the administration to provide training for Municipal employees at all levels, according to Lewis. This, she said, would allow the Council to be fully equipped with the requisite skills set and that Council has in its employ a cadre of Municipal Officers that are efficient and competent in all areas of City Management and Administration. This will enable all citizens to benefit from quality services in their local communities, added Lewis.
According to her, too, it is anticipated that the facility would be available to other Municipalities, Regional Democratic Councils, Neighbourhood Democratic Councils and other civic groups to provide training for their employees in various disciplines in management as well.
Also, the City Administration anticipates that the facility would generate much-needed revenue so that the Council would be able to provide additional municipal services to the citizenry.
