Dear Editor,
We welcome this opportunity to respond to the concerned citizen John Jackson whose sentiments were carried in KN dated March 3, 2016 and titled “Who is financing Mark Benschop” and welcome his queries about our campaign. This is the discourse that Team Benschop welcomes and hopes that Mr Jackson directs his queries to the other groups and political parties.
Team Benschop has been running its campaign on 90% volunteerism. Team Benschop is pleased that Guyanese have recognized that Georgetown and Guyana are theirs and that they play a role in their management hence their full support through volunteerism.
We would like to use the opportunity to thank the countless persons who have helped to distribute campaign materials, may it be flags and posters, donated office and other supplies, helped us design ads and banners, video and other ads and have offered monetary and other support to our campaign.
When we started on this journey we thought it would have been an uphill task to raise support, but every day citizens either walk in or call our office to give us that support.
No doubt our campaign is costing us and we try in many ways to meet these costs and thank those persons who allow us a little leverage when it comes to acquiring their services and products.
We invite Mr Jackson to come see how our campaign is being run and we also invite Mr Jackson to see how we manage our campaign. We also point Mr.Jackson to check out our GOFundme initiative where we managed to raise some US$1400 merely on donations and where persons donating leave encouraging comments like “Good luck my friend, I know you can do this. Surround yourself with some technocrats as well engineers, architects, urban planners, financial consultants and break into the business community, they need you as much as you need them”.
And finally, Mr Jackson if we are to believe every “word on the street” about who funds what or who does what many of us including you wouldn’t get any work done. Team Benschop stands proudly with its citizens and friends who continue to support and rightfully reject any insinuation that either the PPP, PNC or AFC funds or support us. Team Benschop refuses to be drawn into people’s wild imaginations.
Team Benschop will continue to work as hard as possible to ensure that people are involved in the management of the city and will use this campaign period to integrate citizen involvement into the management process.
Ronson Gray,
Campaign Manager.
Team Benschop for Mayor
