Led by successful West Indies Under-19 Captain Shimron Hetmyer Universal DVD Titans registered a six-wicket victory over Essequibo X1 when the final of the West Berbice Cricket Association/Goodwill Promotion T20 tournament was contested recently at Albion.
Hetmyer hammered 64 off 40 deliveries to lead his team to 135-4 off 14 overs in response to Essequibo’s 134-9. Hetmyer blasted five fours and three sixes and got support from Joshua Ramsammy who hit 42 from 20 balls. Akeem Green and Joshua Safeek took two wickets each.
Earlier Essequibo innings was built around Ricardo Peters who scored 24, Kevin Boodie 23 and Anthony Adams 21. G. Singh claimed 3-28, Jamal La Fleur 2-14 and Eon Hooper 2-22.
In earlier games, Titans whipped West Berbice by70 runs. Titans took first strike and posted 163-7 with Romario Sheppard and Eon Hooper scoring 29 apiece; R. Mitchell picked up four wickets. West Berbice were bowled out for 93 in reply. Troy Halley made 34 and Keith Fraser 18. Eon Hooper and Shawn Pereira captured three wickets each.
Essequibo beat Georgetown by 87 runs. Batting first, Essequibo rattled up 147 all out. Kemol Savory struck seven fours and one six in scoring 72 off 53 balls. Ronaldo Mohamed picked up three wickets and Sherfene Rutherford two. Georgetown were skittled for 60 in 14.3 overs in reply. Mohamed made 16 as S. Persaud snared three scalps while J. Shakeer and R De Freitas had two each.
