The Blairmont Cricket Club of West Bank Berbice will be hosting a T20 tournament in honour of former West Indies opening batsman Roy Fredericks on March 19 and 20 under lights.
The club recently named its members pavilion after the legendary cricketer and a release stated that the executives will organise several events in respect of their former player for his contribution to cricket development in Berbice, Guyana and the Caribbean.
Among the teams set to battle for supremacy are Cotton Tree Die Hard, Young Warriors, Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, Bath Underdogs, Blairmont Blazers, Skeldon Gladiators, West Berbice Super Kings, Black Bush Rangers, Bush Lot Strikers and Lusignan Emperors.
Additionally, the club in collaboration with the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) will stage a competition which is aimed at resuscitating the sport in the area. There will also be a dominos competition and other attractions from which the proceeds will go towards the development of the club.
The organisation with approval from the Ministry of Education will be hosting a Spelling Bee and a Mathematics Quiz competition for Grade Six students in Region five to help them prepare for the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) in the latter part of the year.
