King gearing up to claim spot on CMRC team for Jamaica

expressed both locally and regionally, former Group 4 champion Andrew King speaking with Kaieteur Sport via telephone yesterday said he is racing against time to finish a new engine that is currently being built in Miami, USA.
King, who drives a tube-framed Mazda RX 7 said the team is hoping that the turbo-charged engine will arrive in Guyana in time for the upcoming March 20, National ‘Race of Champions’ Meet which is being organised by the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club to select the Guyana team that will represent this country at the season opening Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) set for May in Jamaica.
The durable motor racer, who has been in the sport for over two decades, has been an important member of the Guyana team at the CMRC earning valuable points for them over the years and according to him, he will be vying for a spot on the team to tour this year.
To this end, King, who revealed that modification on the car started since last November has confirmed that he will be on the grid racing against the best the country has to offer and his fans can be assured that he will be competitive come race day.
“We are hoping that the new engine arrives in time for the race Meet, this more than likely will be confirmed by weekend when we expect it to be finished building and hopefully the tuning as well,” King disclosed.
According to King, the manufacturers are pushing hard to complete the job in time for the Meet where he is expected to face the likes of the returning Mark Vieira, Irfaan Klamadeen, Kevin Jeffrey and the ‘new kid on the block’ Kristian Jeffrey, the reigning Caribbean King of motor racing.
Guyana is the defending champions, winning the overall CMRC title for the past two years, while the young Jeffrey has also won the title two years in succession.
Meanwhile, among the sponsors on board to date are GTT and Fly Jamaica and admission to the races is $1,000 for adults and $500 for children under the age of 12 years.
