The raging Port Mourant Training Centre (PMTC) One Volleyball team continued
their dominance in the volleyball circuit in Berbice. Their latest triumph came in the recently concluded BVA Mashramani tournament held last Tuesday at the Skeldon Community Centre when they steamroll their opponents to take top honours.
In the final they made light worked of Ballers of Skeldon winning 20-12 in the one set final.
The competition was played on a mobile court due to heavy rainfall and the soggy state of the ground saw some 13 teams participated.
The teams were divided into three segments with six senior males, four females and three juniors participating.
The male teams that participated were PMTC, 1, 2 and 3, Ballers of Skeldon, NO52 Survivors and Jets of Corriverton. The female teams were Flamingo, Sun Flower and Young Strikers (made up of junior girls) of Orealla/ Siparuta and Black Birds. The junior male teams were Young Warriors and Family Boys of Orealla/ Siparuta and No52 Survivors. NO 52 Survivors copped third place in the open male category after defeating Jets 20-14.
In the female category, Flamingo edged past Young Strikers 20-19 to take top honours. Flamingo had earlier defeated Sun Flower 20-12, while Young Strikers ah beaten Black Birds 20-7.
In the junior division Young Warriors had to dig deep to squeeze past NO52 Survivors 20-19 in another nail biter.
Trevon McRae was the most outstanding player among the seniors. Among the females Rachael McIntosh of Flamingo and Alicia Welcome of Young Strikers were rewarded for being outstanding. Among the junior boys Keon France of Young Warriors and Andy Rohoman of No52 Survivors were recognized for their outstanding play.
The top teams were presented with trophies, while the outstanding individual players were rewarded with medals. (Samuel Whyte)
