MEXICO – This past weekend, the San Luis Potosi racetrack was home to round
3 out of 7 rounds of the 2015-2016 F4 Nacam championships. Officially named the F4 NACAM Championship after the body of FIA members in North America and Central America, these cars are open-wheel single-seater with a carbon fibre monocoque using the same combination of Mygale chassis and Ford engine on Pirelli tyres. Two Caribbean based drivers’, Calvin Ming of Guyana and Frankie Zachary Boodram of Trinidad & Tobago are contesting the championships along with a host of international drivers’. About 20 cars in total are registered to contest the championships. There are 7 rounds comprising of 3 separate races per race weekend thus, 7 rounds with 3 races totaling 21 races for the full season.
Both driver’s had mixed results, Calvin Ming in the Mings Products and Services # 4 car qualified well in 5th place but, had an electrical issue that sidelined him in race 1 after a few laps. Whereas, # 46, Frankie Zachary Boodram qualified down the pack but, made his way up the standings to mid-pack before another competitor used the back of the # 46 car as brakes by colliding and damaging the rear suspension of Boodrams’s car causing him to retire unceremoniously. Both drivers were unable to complete race 1.
Race 2, # 4, Ming rocketed his way to a 5th place finish just over 2 seconds behind the leader. # 46, Boodram who started off the weekend in excellent fashion saw it go downhill. Just prior to the start of race 2, Boodram had a spectacular accident by hitting a fence and tree causing extensive damages to his car but, the crew were able to fix it in time before the start of the race. He made the start finishing in 11th even after having some issues related to the engine.
Race 3, # 4, Calvin Ming improved on his position in the previous race by missing the podium by 1 position. His 4th place finish improved his overall standings. Unfortunately, # 46, Frankie Zazhary Boodram in the Speedway F4 car was unable to start the race due partly to the extensive damages that were received earlier in the day plus, some mechanical issues related to the engine.
Both drivers’ represented the region very well and we wish them success for the remainder of the season.
