One of the top cricket clubs in Berbice, affiliated to the Berbice Cricket Board, the Rose
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster (right) receives the award from His Excellency President David Granger, who is also Patron of the club.
Hall Town Youth and Sports Club was the recipient of the prestigious national award, Medal of Service. The BCB takes the opportunity to congratulate the club and also say thanks for their contribution to Berbice, Guyana and West Indies cricket, a release from the BCB stated.
The release continued by saying that the club’s current president Keith Foster is the immediate past president of the board and he served with distinction. The secretary Hilbert Foster was the head of the special events committee and was the major player in transforming the board into an active NGO. Under his watch, many organisations, churches, cricket clubs and individuals benefitted through his influence and soliciting of sponsorship. Even on the field of cricket, all levels of cricket was played in Berbice except for three day which was in the pipeline when he resigned to spend more time with his club.
The RHTY&SC produced several outstanding cricketers some of whom went on to wear West Indian colours. To name a few: Assad Fudadin, Royston Crandon, Erva Giddings and Shemaine Campbell.
The BCB in closing pleaded with other cricket clubs and organisations to widen their role in society and help the less fortunate and at the same time provide hope for the hopeless, something that the RHTY&SC has been doing for many years. Congrats again to Hilbert Foster and his hard working team.
