Residents of Linden, Region Ten are to benefit from a $500M housing programme, which will see the development of over 2,000 house lots, according to Minister within the Ministry of Communities, Valerie Sharpe- Patterson.
The Minister was at the time speaking at a Business dinner at Watooka House in Linden Friday evening. She said that this development will be realised through a partnership between the Ministry and a female millionaire from Atlanta.
Further, Minister Sharpe-Patterson noted that the government is working towards creating cohesive communities. As such it is not just giving out lands. To this end, the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), as well as the Hinterland Electrification Company Inc., (HECI) will be onboard to ensure water and electricity are provided as the lands are being developed in this project.
The lots will be developed and made available in several categories of residential housing, commercial, public spaces, low, middle and high income houses.
Minister Sharpe-Patterson added that upon taking office in early January, she looked at all available house lots countrywide and found that none was available in Regions One and Ten. Eleven were available in Region Seven. A large number were available in Region Six at a cost of $92,000 each.
A later report showed that 30 house lots were available in Linden which she distributed during a public day exercise. She then told the gathering that “before long you will get your house lots, some at the cost of $92,000 (also).”
The Minister pointed out that there is $500M available for housing in Linden.
Several other regions are also expected to benefit from significant housing programmes this year.
