The People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) parliamentary opposition swore in Bhagmattie
Veersammy as a Member of Parliament, yesterday.
The vacancy was created with the resignation of Dr. Clive Jagan. Jagan announced his retirement recently after he fell ill and the PPP was mandated to select another person from its List of Representatives to fill his vacant seat.
Veersammy was declared an elected Member of the National Assembly after she had taken the oath. The Oath was administered to her by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Sherlock Isaacs.
Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Barton Scotland extended congratulations to Veersammy on her appointment to serve in the Assembly. Also, on behalf of all Members of Parliament as well as on his own behalf, Dr. Scotland extended a hearty welcome.
He expressed the hope that Veersammy will add luster and polish to the National Assembly.
PPP MP Dharamkumar Seeraj joined the Speaker in welcoming his colleague. He described her as a lovely “young lady” whom he has known for quite some time.
Seeraj said that he had the pleasure of working with Veeersammy, and from his experience he can bravely say that the House and its deliberations will be quite richer as a result of her addition.
Veersammy is a long standing member of the PPP and is the General Secretary of the Woman’s Progressive Organization (WPO).
