Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) defeated the University of Guyana (UG) by seven wickets while Everest CC grabbed first innings points from Transport SC when the latest round of matches in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/GISE, Star Party Rentals, Trophy Stall first division two-day cricket concluded on Sunday.
At MSC, UG batted first and were bowled out for 113 with Mahendra Persaud scoring 23 and Darnell Douglas 21; leg spinner Steven Sankar snared 4-32 and Steven Jacobs 2-23.
MSC responded with 202 all out. Orin Forde scored 47, Mark Watkins 42, Jacobs 29 and Anthony Ifill 22. Left-arm spinner Damein Vantull bagged 6-80 while off-spinner Dennis Haywood claimed 3-64. Trailing by 89, UG managed 200 all out, batting a second time. Leon Williams slammed 51 and Dwayne Dodson 31; Sankar claimed 5-56 to end with match figures of 9-88. Needing 112 to win, MSC achieved victory in 14.1 overs with Jacobs scoring 44 not out while Ifill got 37 and Watkins 22. Vantull took two wickets.
At Eve Leary, Everest batted first and posted 240. Chanderpaul Hemraj struck 88 while Dwayne Adams made 51; Kevin Ross and Shawn Massiah had three wickets each.
TSC were bowled out for 185 in response with Charwayne McPherson scoring 49 and Shemroy Kendall 22; Saheed Mohamed claimed 3-32 and Troy Gonsalves 3-71 and Javed Rasheed 2-33. Everest declared on 254-6 in their second turn at the crease. Mohamed slammed 98, while Shivnarine Chanderpaul got 48 and Gonsalves 47. Ross picked up 4-48. Set 310 for victory TSC were 15-1 when play was halted due to rain.
The competition continues today with DCC hosting UG (Cyril Garnath and Clyde Layne) and Everest entertaining GDF (Javed Persaud and Shannon Crawford).
