Guyana’s recently crowned National Women’s Table Tennis Champion and Lindenwood
University scholarship recipient, Chelsea Edghill completed an impressive showing on the intercollegiate circuit, winning the Women’s Singles at the National Regional Division Inter-Collegiate Table Tennis Championships.
The competition, which pits upper Midwest Division teams against lower Midwest Division teams, was played at the gymnasium of the University of Lindenwood, Missouri last weekend.
Just off her recent success at the National Championships, Edghill defeated Maria Castillo of the University of Wisconsin in the finals 3-0 to avenge an earlier defeat to Castillo in the group matches.
In the group, seeded number one in group two, she lost to eventual finalist, Maria Castillo 3-2, defeated Furuta Mayuko 3-0, Andrea Hoppert 3-0 and Jinvi Humi 3-0 to emerge from the group to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, she defeated Yan Dan and later went on to defeat Zhang Yixin in the semi-finals before beating Castillo in the final.
