Dear Editor,
I wish to recount my experience on the level of professionalism and medical attention provided by a doctor at Diamond Diagnostic Centre identified to me simply as Dr. Abdool. I have been an occasional patient since the Centre’s establishment however, the quality of services and level of professionalism over the years have drastically declined. I hardly visit there of recent but a few nights ago a relative fell ill and was taken to Diamond.
We arrived at the centre with our relative to be greeted by a semi friendly nurse. Maybe she had a bad day or was generally unpleasant in personality. There was a bit of a crowd but not overly so. After about 10 minutes we were directed to Room 17 where there were already about 3 persons ahead of me. A young man was bleeding and the young doctor gave him priority and asked the remainder of patients to please be understanding and excuse her for a few moments as she attended to him.
She returned some 15 minutes later to attend to the rest of us and was interrupted by the nurse about what seemed to be some sort of emergency. She asked us yet again to excuse her for a moment. She returned some 10 minutes later or so and thanked us for our patience. She proceeded to attend to the waiting line of patients and it was my turn (my relative)to be attended to. Despite the known occasions witnessed by me that the young doctor was up and down and back and forth, she appeared to be quite composed and NOT flustered or agitated. She greeted us with a smile, introduced herself simply as Dr. Abdool and proceeded to attend to my relative.
She listened attentively, asked her necessary questions, did her medical procedures and made her diagnosis, explaining to my relative what was happening and reasons why. She also explained reversible methods and offered advice. This was apart from immediate treatment. My relative was wheeled into that hospital but left walking. For the first time in a long time, I have met a doctor who seemingly enjoys their job with genuine concern for their patients’ well being. Congratulations and Thank You to Dr. Abdool for her service and kindness. Thank You for renewing my faith in doctors (Cuban trained at that) especially at Diamond. I hope the other medical providers can learn and emulate this very well put together doctor and young lady.
