“The government is working towards creating social cohesive communities; as such it is not just
giving out lands”.
This was according to the Minister within the Ministry of Communities, Valerie Sharpe-Patterson during a business dinner at the Watooka House, in Linden, Tuesday last.
The Minister revealed that Lindeners will be benefitting from a $500M housing programme, which will see the development of over 2000 house lots.
She continued that this development will be realised through a partnership between the Ministry and a woman millionaire from Atlanta.
The Minister also said that the Guyana Water Incorporated, as well as the Hinterland Electrification Company Inc., will be onboard to ensure water and electricity are provided as the lands are being developed in this project.
The lots, she said, will be developed and made available in several categories of residential housing, commercial, public spaces, low, middle and high income houses.
In addition, the Minister pointed out that upon taking office in early January, she looked at all available house lots countrywide and found that none was available in Region One and Region Ten, while 11 were available in Region Seven.
She continued that a large number was available in Region Six at a cost of $92,000 each.
In addition, a later report showed 30 house lots were available in Linden which she distributed during a public day exercise. She then told the gathering that “before long you will get your house lots, some at the cost of $92,000 (also).”
The Minister pointed out that there is $500M available for housing in Linden.
She concluded that several other regions are also expected to benefit from significant housing programmes this year.
